Born in 1995, Marion Artense Gély resides and works in Paris. Graduating from the École nationale supérieure d’arts de Paris-Cergy (ENSAPC) in 2020, she has been in residence at POUSH Manifesto in Aubervilliers since 2021.
Marion Artense Gély, an explorer of elements, directs her gaze into the intricacies of the infinitely small and the expanses of the infinitely large, searching for the essence that
animates the world. Through the ancient techniques of glazing and sfumato, she confronts the artifices of appearance to unearth the layers of a forgotten memory. Her work blossoms at the intersection of painting, photography, and installation, with each medium transforming into a receptacle, a guardian of lights, in a narrative seemingly arising from a timeless dialogue between dawn and dusk.
These narratives depict a human imprint vanishing from coveted territories, revealing a haunting absence. The temporality of the images unfolds in its complexity, sketching a
new world where elements embody a unique essence. This emergence could transcend the temporal boundaries of the Anthropocene in a deliberate attempt to reimagine the sacred.
Strength, Energy, and Emergence, the trinity at the core of her painting, now resonates
with ceramic work. A ritual established in anticipation of the extended drying times required by her pictorial technique is now utilized to grasp an obsessive Emergence: the living.
Marion Artense Gély’s works have been exhibited in France and abroad, notably dur-
ing the residency at La Chapelle Saint-Antoine on the island of Naxos in 2022; at the Myriam Chair Gallery and the Galerie May as well as at the Dumonteil gallery in Paris in the summer of 2024. In the autumn of the same year, her work will be displayed at the Dauphine Gallery and during the Darmo Art Prize ceremony, where she is one of the ten finalists. Eight of her paintings have been acquired by the Orient-Express La Minerva Hotel in Rome, under the direction of the French architect and designer Hugo Toro. She was at Taoxichuan Ceramic Residency Programm in Jingdezhen (cradle of porcelain) in China during three months. She have a duo show with Denis Macrez at the Chapelle XIV gallery until march 2025.
